Lund University has presented a new Campus Plan for its campuses in Lund, Malmö, Helsingborg, and Ljungbyhed, setting future direction for construction, innovation, and development all the way to 2050.
At its core, the new campus plan outlines a vision where the campus is well-connected to the cities and surrounding communities. The intention is that this will be achieved through enhancing active nodes and establishing strategic hubs. For students, this means campuses that feel open, accessible, and enjoyable. The environments are intended to support learning, foster community, and strengthen the sense of belonging at Lund University.
”The Campus Plan demonstrates the value of everything being connected,” says Madeleine Starck, project manager at the Campus Development Office at LU Estates, in a news article published on the university website. “We aim to have a well-connected campus network, located in strategic locations in municipalities where collaboration can improve both study and work environments.”
In Lund, the plan identifies key routes and hubs that will tie the campuses together more tightly with two major developments: the establishment of a new hospital and the Science Village. In Malmö, the three academies of the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts are planned to co-locate, forming a unified creative hub. Meanwhile, in Helsingborg, a trade and logistics centre, as well as a new innovation district, is expected to be built around the existing campus, strengthening links between students and local industries.
Another key ambition is that the plan ensures that this long-term vision reaches all campuses – not only those in Lund. While students are spread across Skåne regions, student life is currently strongest within Lund. Students in Malmö, Helsingborg, and Ljungbyhed often experience limited access to the same study environments and vibrant community.

Teo Houmann, President of Lund University’s Student Union Association, also stresses the importance of equal accessibility across campuses.
– It is positive that the plan includes all campuses across the regions, he says.
– All students should have equal opportunities to take part in the shared student community, enjoy student activities, and feel the same sense of belonging, no matter which campus they study on, as long as they are a part of LU.
