Review: I Love It – and so did Lund

- in Aktuell, Lundakarnevalen 2026, Nöje

Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, better known by their stage name Icona Pop, have spent over a decade performing. Yesterday, the electropop duo from Stockholm performed on the large stage at Lundakarnivalen. The performance offered both 2010’s nostalgia, as well as exposure to their new releases.

It is dark outside and there is a massive crowd outside Stora scenen. You needed to be here at least 30 minutes early to get inside. Those right by the barricade in front of the stage had secured their spot over two hours ago, and some have been here over four hours, entertaining themselves between sets by hyping each other up and playing imposter.

The performers’ silhouettes appear in the smoke on stage. What follows is an hour of high-energy performance. The crowd is jumping throughout the entirety of it. The leather jackets, knee high boots, and bedazzled round collars have a nostalgic charm. While the stage setup is simple, the duo has an undeniable stage presence. The line-up consists primarily of their most famous songs, notably their 2012 hit I Love It. The duo also performed their newest single Butterfly Feelings, which hsd just been released on the previous day, as a preview to their upcoming album Ritual.

At 23:15, the crowd is still ecstatic and Icona Pop finish their set. Several minutes of the crowd chanting “en gång till” follows, but we are not given an encore.
